Antonio Rossini was an Italian composer, who was born on 29 February 1792. One of his best-known works is his opera “The Barber of Seville” which he completed at the age of 18. By the early 1820's Rossini had been appointed the Director of the San Carlo Theater in Naples. While working there he wrote 36 operas. After that he suddenly stopped writing music. For the next 40 years of his life he did not compose at all. Until his retirement in 1829, Rossini had been the most popular opera composer in history.
